   World Championships
John Collins served as the head coach for the U.S. Women's team at the World Championships in Fukuoka Japan. Cristina Teuscher was also in attendance for the U.S., competing in the 200 IM and the 800 Free Relay. Unfortunately, a bizarre series of events cost the U.S. 800 Free Relay team a medal. Teuscher swam the second leg for the U.S., but the team was disqualified when the timing system showed that Cristina had started early. Deck officials, however, had not independently cited the disqualification. A videotape of the race seemed to indicate that there had been no false start, but that the timing may have malfunctioned. The results of the race were made even more bizarre when the Australian team was disqualified when one of the Australian swimmers re-entered the water to celebrate after the race. Great Britian, which finished third behind Australia and the U.S., was awarded the gold. A multi-nation protest concerning the accuracy of the timing system was filed, but did not result in a review of the race results.

Teuscher finished 7th in the 200 IM. The meet took place from July 22nd - 29th.
