Gold Medal - 800 Medley Relay
In 1996 Cristina Teuscher became Badger's third Olympic gold medalist, leading the U.S. 800 freestyle relay to victory in front of an enthusiastic American audience in Atlanta. Cristina swam the second leg of the relay, and propelled the U.S. team past the German squad and into the lead. The U.S. lead would not not be relinquished. Her split time was the fastest ever recorded by an American woman. After the race the relay team was greeted by an admiring President Clinton.
